As I was planning our mega Winter Olympics & Ancient Greece unit study, I found out that Tricia has some Simple Chalk Pastel Tutorials based on the Winter Olympics!! Woo-hoo! I was just a wee bit excited. Ok, maybe too excited about an art project. 🙂
There are 7 chalk pastel tutorials/projects in this ebook. You can see the Olympic medals we did above, and some of the others we tried below! There also is a FREE video on the website for the awesome Olympic Torch that Hannah drew! {Click here for the FREE video for the torch tutorial!}
One thing that I really love about these tutorials is that they are short and sweet. I love that we can finish one in less than 30 minutes…a few of them, even less than that. And because they lead to such success, the kids ask to do MORE! There aren’t many times in our school day that my kids ask for more of anything, so I count that as a huge success!
Supplies Needed: Paper + Chalk Pastels = that’s it!
We love these simple chalk pastel tutorials from Southern Hodge Podge. You can see that we have used several of her free tutorials in my art class at co-op! If you click on my Teaching Art series, scroll down and click on ANY of the chalk pastel lessons and you can see how we’ve used her tutorials in my art class throughout the semester! There are also several other tutorial packs in addition to the Winter Olympic set. 🙂
I’m really grateful for these tutorials because, quite honestly, they have pushed me into trying a new art medium with my kids and with my art class at co-op! I don’t feel like I ever would have had the confidence to do projects with these had I not seen Tricia’s blog and how SIMPLE it can be to use these with your kids!! Yes, they are messy!! But, art is worth the mess, friends!!
I hope you will try them out…and if you do, I would LOVE for you to come back and tell me how it went!!

Candace – you share just what Nana and I hope to offer – building that love of art “because they lead to such success, the kids ask to do MORE!” Thank you!
